What's a Low Carb Diet Really Mean? When I hear low carb to me it means, "low sugar," or "less processed foods." If we'd all make an effort to avoid chips, cookies, cakes, high corn syrup drinks, and candy, then we'd be reducing our overall carbs and eating more healthfully at the same time. There is also no need to avoid foods that are grown and served as close to their natural state as possible such as fresh fruits and vegetables, nor must you avoid brown rice or even pasta. It's not pasta that makes us fat, it's the creamy sauces and the loaves of bread, desserts, and drinks we have along with our spaghetti. It's the combination and quantity of food, not just one food or category of...

And now youre thinking you should give it a go -- have even started the search for high protein low carbohydrate recipes? True, high protein low carb diets seem to be leading many people to weight loss success. Trouble is, they seemed to do it 30 years ago, too. They were the rage in the early 70s, and look where many of us are today: growing fatter with each decade. The bottom line: Diets -- low carb diets or not -- simply dont work for the vast majority of people. If that doesn't convince you, look at some of the reasons why high...
What is a Low Carb Diet? You'll do away with bad carbs and bad fats, and start eating good fats and good carbs. What you need to understand is that you are not really on a diet, but changing the way you eat. Eating the wrong foods consistently throws your body out of balance. Most of us tend to overdue it eating processed carbs. What do I mean by processed carbs? Basically, there are two kinds of carbohydrates, simple and complex. Some refer to them as bad and good carbs, fast and slow digestion carbs and others. Here are some basic explanations: SIMPLE CARBS - Foods with simple or refined carbohydrates most often have a low nutrient content and a high-glycemic index. They...

The low carb diet craze has become extremely popular amongst dieters. From diet books, free low carb diet plans, online dieting sites, and thousands of low carb recipes, low carb diets have produced favorable results for millions of overweight people. Along with the Atkins Diet and the South Beach diet, there are many other low carb diet plans. The Suzanne Sommers Diet and The Zone Diet are popular choices as well, each promising to be more effective than the other. Each of these diet plans includes recipes, menus, and helpful diet tips designed to help you lose weight quickly and maintain your weight loss.
If you are considering beginning a low carb diet, keep in mind that each low
carb diet plan allows for differing amounts of carbohydrates that you may
consume. Some allow little to no carbohydrates and others allow for only certain
types of carbohydrates. You will find hundreds to thousands of low carb recipes
and meal plans. Switching to a low carb lifestyle is not the answer if bread,
potatoes, and pasta are staples in your diet. If you can live without these
types of foods, low carb may be the perfect diet plan for you.
Low carb recipes limit the amount of carbohydrates you consume while allowing
you to enjoy a variety of foods. There are delicious recipes available that are
sure to please your entire family and limit the number of carbohydrate grams you
are eating at the same time. The South Beach program allows for a gradual
increase in carbohydrates as your body adjusts to your new eating habits. The
South Beach Diet is somewhat less restrictive than The Atkins Diet. The Zone Diet
and The Suzanne Sommers Diet stress not only a low carb lifestyle, but also
combining certain foods to increase your body's fat burning ability. Other less
well-known low carb diet plans may be just as effective for you as the more
famous diet plans.
Beginning a low carb diet and lifestyle will require discipline and
determination, but can be very helpful in your quest to lose weight. Search the
diet plans and recipes that are available to you until you find the one that
will best suit your individual needs. Free diet plans and recipes are also
readily available.
There are many products available to help you lose weight. There are

Low carbohydrate diets have been made popular by weight loss schemes such as the Atkins diet and South Beach diet. They are appealing due to the fact that the foods you can eat are essentially the opposite of most other diets. That is, you eat a lot of protein and fats and very restricted carbohydrates. The basis of this diet is that you require carbohydrates to produce insulin, and it's this that makes you metabolise the fats in your food. Without the carbohydrates, you put yourself in the position that the food you eat goes essentially undigested. Your body reacts by using up it's stored carbohydrates (in the form of glycogen) very quickly and you then go into a state of ketosis. This results in a very rapid initial weight loss since a lot of water is also stored with the glycogen. Depending on the particular diet, the carbohydrate restriction can be very severe - for example on the Atkins diet, in the initial phases you may eat no more than 15-20 grams of carbohydrate a day. Also, the type of carbohydrate becomes important too. It becomes permissible to eat restricted amounts of fruit, but the real issue is refined carbohydrates, as these cause spikes in insulin production. So, the foods which are a no-no are things which contain milled white flour and white sugar (and other sources of refined carbohydrates). These include * Sugar
* Bread
* Cakes
* Sweets (candy to our American friends)
* Alcoholic drinks
* Rice
* Pasta
* any non-diet drinks
* almost all ready-meals and also, in the initial strict part of the regime, * Potatoes
* Rice
* Fruit
* Vegetables (apart from a small quantity of leafy green vegetables) The things which you may eat are * Any unprocessed fresh meat
* Unprocessed fish
* Eggs
* Cream
* Oils...
